ANGINA
|
Chest pain or discomfort as a result of decreased oxygen supply to the heart muscle.

ATHEROSCLEROSIS
|
A condition in which there is narrowing of the arteries due to build-up of fatty materials such as cholesterol. Atherosclerosis is a significant risk factor for coronary artery disease and strokes.

|
|
MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION (HEART ATTACK)
|
Interruption of blood supply to a part of the heart muscle, causing the heart muscle cells to die. This is usually due to blockage of a coronary artery following the rupture of a vulnerable atherosclerotic plaque in the wall of the artery.

HEART FAILURE
|
The inability of the heart to supply sufficient blood flow to meet the needs of the body. The cause of heart failure may be due to heart attacks, hypertension, heart valve disease etc. Symptoms of heart failure may include breathing difficulties, swelling of the ankles, coughing, exercise intolerance.

PALPITATIONS
|
The abnormal beating of the heart which causes a conscious awareness of this abnormal beating. This abnormal beating can be too fast (tachycardia), too slow (bradycardia) or be irregular.
