OTITIS EXTERNA

Otitis externa is commonly known as "Swimmer's Ear". It is an inflammation or infection of the ear canal, the passage that leads from the outer ear to the eardrum.

OTITIS MEDIA
|
Otitis media is a middle ear infection. It usually occurs together with an upper respiratory tract infection, such as a common cold. During an upper respiratory tract infection, the eustachian tube gets blocked, and fluid accumulates in the middle ear. Infection then sets in an cause pain, decreased hearing and fever.

SEROUS EFFUSION
|
A serous effusion of the ear is a collection of fluid in the middle ear. When this fluid gets infected, it is called otitis media.

PERFORATED TYMPANIC MEMBRANE
|
This refers to a hole in the ear drum (tympanic membrane).

TINNITUS
|
Tinnitus is the perception of sound (ringing or roaring) in the ears which does not come from the surrounding (nobody else can hear it). It is not a disease, but a symptom of an underlying problem. |

TONSILLITIS
|
Infection of the tonsils.

LARYNGITIS
|
Inflammation or infection of the larynx (the vocal cords).
