The public hospitals and specialist centres in Singapore have been restructured by the government to be run as private companies but wholly owned by the government.
Patients may choose between varying degrees of subsidy. Means testing was introduced in Jan 2009 "as a way to focus limited resources for needy Singaporeans, by channeling it to those who need it most."

National University Hospital is a 928-bed tertiary acute-care hospital - the only university hospital in Singapore, offering a comprehensive range of services across medical and surgical disciplines.
